Aero Nav Laboratories offers a wide range of
engineering consulting services utilizing its own in-
house capabilities and those of an associated
consulting firm.
Included are engineering analytical services such as
- finite element analyses (FEA)
- stress analysis
- vibration analysis
- structural dynamics
- thermal analysis
- reliability
- computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Also included among the services are mechanical
testing, design, and packaging, and computer-aided
design (CAD). The key goals are to verify and optimize
designs prior to equipment fabrication.
Also included are forensic engineering services such as investigations of
accidents and equipment testing failures, and metallurgical examinations
of failed parts. Forensic engineering is defined as the investigation of
materials, products, or parts thereof that have failed and may have caused
property or personnel damage. An example of forensic engineering service is
shown in the photograph of corroded pieces of metal, which failed in a
marine atmosphere due to galvanic attack.
The key goals of forensic investigations are to determine the causes of
equipment test failures, corrosion attacks, etc. Various methods are used
including reverse engineering, and detailed physical and metallurgical
examinations of the failed parts. The use of these methods will lead to
recommendations to prevent re-occurrences.
The laboratory offers the above engineering consulting services to its
customers to supplement their own in-house capabilities. These services
will help to expand the customer’s competitiveness and reduce costs by
assuring solid engineering baselines for its designs and products.
